Phoenix Mercury celebrate the selection of their #1 pick, Brittney Griner, in Downtown Phoenix, Elite Media Spearheads the Big Reveal
PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury and the City of Phoenix celebrated the Mercury’s selection of Brittney Griner as the #1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft by highlighting Griner throughout downtown Phoenix. 1st Street, was temporarily renamed, “Griner Street”. In addition, across the street, on the east side of CityScape’s Hotel Palomar building, Elite Media posted a 77 ft. 8 in. by 35 ft. 10 in. banner of Griner featuring one of her highlight dunks.
Since the banner was the media used to announce the big news, the reveal was absolutely confidential. This meant coming up with a way to install a wallscape under a vinyl cover. Due to excessively strong winds a last minute alternative was made. “When handling a client with a confidential message you have to be prepared for anything,” said Chad McCullough, President of Elite Media, “The high winds turned our original cover into a giant sail. I immediately made the decision to remove the cover.” Elite Media quickly produced a duplicate image on a banner to drop down at exactly 6:15 pm on April 15th, following the announcement on ESPN. The banner display was met with cheers and a big party comprised of the Mercury organization, fans and sponsors.
The following morning the adhesive wallscape was installed and the Nike sponsorship logos were added within moments of Griner signing her contract. The wallscape will be displayed through June 10. Elite Media’s simultaneous project, a 25,000 square foot Red Bull building wrap on CityScape’s South tower, got additional exposure and can be seen as a backdrop behind the Phoenix Mercury ad.
